We are looking for a motivated Business & Innovation Intern to support the early development of a neurotechnology spin-out focused on brain-computer interfaces for communication and motor control.
As our intern, you will support the preparation of core elements of the business plan. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an ambitious project translating cutting-edge neuroscience into real-world impact for people with severe paralysis. Your tasks may include:
- Researching and summarizing market landscape and trends in the BCI/neurotechnology space;
- Identifying current investors and funding activity in related startups and competitors;
- Developing financial projections and potential revenue models;
- Mapping value inflection points and possible funding routes (e.g., grants, VC, strategic partners);
- Exploring potential exit strategies and valuation benchmarks;
- Contributing to the pitch deck and other business materials; and
- Suggesting and integrating other relevant insights from your own research and knowledge.
The Utrecht-BCI lab is one of the world-leading centers for developing solutions for people with severe paralysis to enable them to communicate via brain implants. The team is highly multidisciplinary and growing, with currently 8 senior scientists, 6 PhD students, 4 support staff and 6-8 Master students. The members have backgrounds in neuroscience, psychology, biology, physics, computer and data science, and operate as a team with complementary skills and roles. The common aim the team is committed to, is to translate neuroscientific and technological advances to innovative solutions for people with severe disabilities.
- You are a Master’s or late-stage Bachelor’s student in Business, Innovation Management, Finance, Biomedical Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
- You are curious, proactive, and excited about deep tech, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
- You’re comfortable working independently and able to synthesize complex information clearly.
- Prior experience with startups, VC, or healthcare innovation is a plus.
